It's your lifeline, so do it first. This way, you don't get the sum of the points on all your cards if your opponent declares.
2
Keep a close eye on your opponent's play. You should keep track of what cards your opponent picks and discards from the Open deck or Hand to know what to hoard and what to discard.
3
Don't use high-point cards
Discarding high point cards like hot potatoes could save your game! Hoarding high point cards like Ace, King, Queen or Jack and waiting to form Sets and/or Sequences.
4
A Sequence (Pure or with a Joker) can have up to 4 cards. Most people think a Sequence cannot have more than 3 cards which is simply not true.
5
To reduce confusion and avoid discarding any useful cards by mistake, arrange your cards in red-black-red or black-red-black colour combinations.

Rummy players should learn when to drop out of a game. If you do not have a pure sequence or you have less chance of forming one, you may drop off and gather a -20 penalty. Your first Hand incurs a -40 penalty.
